For the last 3-4 weeks, I have been focusing on spending a little more time on me. Being the mom of two little ones (16 months) and (2.5 years), staying at home and maintaining our home, running my own children’s clothing business and blogging doesn’t leave me a whole lot of time for me. But I think it’s important. Isn’t it true that when we look good, we feel good? I think so.
Last week I shared some of my favorite women’s fashion sewing tutorials with you. Now if you are still unsure if you want to commit to making some of your own clothing either because you don’t have the time or your still not comfortable with your current weight or shape. The next best thing is accessories!
You can instantly breathe new life into an outfit with accessories alone. Take a plain t-shirt and jeans, add a fabulous necklace, some pretty earrings and some killer boots and you’ve got a new look in minutes. Accessories are a very inexpensive way to spruce of your wardrobe. And they are even more inexpensive if you make them yourself.
Here are some of my favorite DIY accessories tutorials:
1. Girdy Belt by Katy from No Big Dill
1. Girdy Belt by Katy from No Big Dill
2. 2. Infinity and Beyond Scarf by Shannon from Luvinthemommyhood
3. 3. Petal Clutch by Disney from Ruffles and Stuff
5. 5. Fall Flower by V & Co
6. 6. Anthropologie Inspired Bag by The Boy Trifecta
7. 7. Clutch by Little Big Girl Studio
8. 8. Upcycled scarflett by Cheri from I Am Momma Hear Me Roar
9. 9. Ribbon Camera Strap Cover by Ashley from Lil Blue Boo
Now that I’ve taken some time out for me, I am feeling good! I’ve got my new Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Mosturizing Lotion with Cooling Hydration that has given my skin a definite boost, my new cosmetics to accentuate my clearer skin, a list of wardrobe and accessories projects that I can’t wait to get started on.
So what will you do to take a little time out for you? Do you have any projects on your “to-do” list just for you?

Like just about most other moms out there, my "to-do" list is all about stuff for other people i.e. hubby, kids or housework. It's hard to find time for just me but I'm trying to work on it. Lately it has been reading. I love to read but it has been hard to do with an infant grabbing at the book. Now that she's a bit older and will sit with her books while I read mine. soooo nice :)
ReplyDeleteI usually have a long to do list for sewing projects. As usual, my projects are stacking up. I actually got around to a me project a little over a month ago and I was so excited to make myself a new camera strap following your tutorial. Then our house was broken in into and my camera (including strap) was stolen. Back to the sewing machine I went to make a different strap. Of course I don't have a new camera yet, but the strap is ready. I have been searching for a new camera bag, and have come to the conclusion that I will need to make one for myself to get what I want, so that is my new project on my list. A girly bag for my new camera equipment- something I'll be proud to carry.
ReplyDeleteFor me....this is a super hard question. I'm trying to be good and go to the gym. Alone. I've had to take Josh with me a few times and it's stressful! But as much as I hate the treadmill...half an hour....alone. It's worth it.

I have a few things on my to do list for me, but they are on the back burner until i finish some things for my family and friends for Christmas. I do know that as soon as I have the time, I will be making a tree skirt and stockings for my house. Better late than never, right?
ReplyDeleteI have a HUGE list for myself...I am hoping to start with some cool pillows for my couch. I am just starting to sew and can't wait to add my touches around the house. Sewing has been my escape lately so even though it is sorta stressful since I don't know what I am doing, it is great to make something special and practice a new skill.
ReplyDeleteOne main thing on my list right now is working on some purses and clutches :) You've got some great stuff on your list! Might have to use some :)
ReplyDeletekjadef(at)gmail(dot)com
Oh, I could so use that sweet visa card! I have a list of to-dos. I would love to do some scrapbooking, that would be for me. I am currently working on some crafty stuff to donate to our annual St. Jude Auction that we have every year during Super Bowl Weekend. But, as I have been gathering ideas for that, I have been seeing things I want to change around the house. My hubby thinks we need a bigger tv. Which means that I need a different entertainment center. That takes all the shelf space. So I would LOVE to order some big canvas' to go on our walls!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to get a haircut one of these days.

I admit with Christmas around the corner, there is very little for me on the to-do list. I have been using true free time for reading, nothing like escaping through a good book! I find nothing else can truly take my mind off of everything like that...Guess I would use the money to stock up on my book collection :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I don't even know how to answer that question! But I will say that I have wanted to learn to sew for quite some time. So now its just a matter of getting my hands on a machine and getting started. I'm really hoping to do that soon! So that is something I would like to do for "me". :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me stop and think that I really don't take much "me" time. I am so busy crafting and sewing for others that I rarely make myself something, or do something just for me. Maybe I will treat myself to a pedicure this week... yes, that sounds nice!
ReplyDeleteIf I cut down on sitting in front of the T.V. after cleaning the kitchen in the evenings, I could finally finish those curtains for my bathroom!
ReplyDeleteI want to learn how to crochet. My sister picked it up really fast and I hope she is going to teach me.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I want to get a massage, then a manicure and pedicure and then I will crochet a nice soft scarf for myself.
ReplyDeleteMy to-do list usually consists of stuff for my girls. But after Christmas I am making myself a new purse! It's time to graduate from the diaper bag. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm awaiting the birth of my first child and would love to get my hair done once the baby is born!
ReplyDeleteI am planning a bedroom re-do sometime next year. Can't wait to love my bedroom as much as I love Reese's :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to buy a new home...we've been looking, and while $100 wouldn't buy a house, it certainly would come in handy. Thanks for offering! Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteMy me time is spent entering giveaways on the computer. So many great prizes: so little time

Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteI, like most moms, always pick up something here or there for the little ones and never think for a moment about getting something for myself. I guess if I had to spend $100 on myself i'd probably buy some new shoes or clothes. I tend to let my wardrobe suffer and "make do" with what I have.
Thanks for the chance and Merry Christmas!
I go to the movies or read a book.

A manicure/pedicure and a massage. Also yoga class. :o)
ReplyDeleteI have not been spending much time for me. Now that my baby is a bit older I HAVE to find some time for exercise!
ReplyDeleteI have a few projects I want to sew for myself, and at the top of the list is a cute but easy purse I saw online.
ReplyDeleteI'd do more yoga or reading.

I have so many projects on my 'to do list for me' but never get to them because of stuff for everyone else. But I do love to get a pedi once in a while!
ReplyDeleteI have a dress cut out. If I ever get to it that would be the project I would do for myself.
ReplyDeleteI love the petal purse. It's just soooooo super cute...
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to scrapbook a December daily album this weekend, that's just for me. Playing with my scrapbook toys and enjoying the many photos I've taken this month already.
ReplyDeleteNow that my holiday rush is over, I'm taking some time to knit and sew some items just for me during the holiday break!
ReplyDeleteI take time out to read

I L.O.V.E. your blog! I too am a busy, working mommy that rarely takes time for myself. Please keep blogging! Love the recipes, accessories, all of it!!
ReplyDeleteIts kind of difficult to make things for myself after spending all day making chainmail jewelry and accessories for customers. However, I try to take a little time to make myself a new necklace or armband, particularly in Steampunk style since friends have talked us into attending some conventions this year.

We're in the process of finishing our basement and decorating a nursery! I'm treating myself to a sewing/project area in the basement, so that will have to suffice for a while. Maybe I'll sew myself some things when I get all set up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great posts! I love the Girdy Belt, and I am definitely going to make one of them!! When I find the time. I work full time and I have a pile of movies checked out from the library that I am going to watch.. Just for me, no action here!!
ReplyDeleteI try to do small things for myself so I feel better. Happy mommy, happy baby! Sometimes it is a nap in favor of neglecting laundry, but I simply have to do it for my health.

I take time for me by taking a bath each morning instead of a quick shower. It's nice and warm and a great place to think without interruption. :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as making things for myself, I have two lap quilts planned out for myself. I love having a blanket on at all times. :)
