Green Mountain Coffee and Keurig Review and Giveaway

My husband and I are huge coffee drinkers.  I’m not quite sure how people, especially mom’s of young children, are able to function without it.  But what I am even a bigger fan of is when an item or product that I love and consume daily is socially and environmentally conscious.

If I am going to be spending my family’s hard earned money on a product we use daily, I want to know that I am buying a product that is focused on creating positive change in our world.  Now this is not always possible or necessarily affordable, but it is definitely possible with coffee.

Green Mountain Coffee is Certified Fair Trade and is committed promoting positive change around the world.  Certified Fair Trade is defined as an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries make better trading conditions and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as higher social and environmental standards.

As a company, Green Mountain has worked hard to support communities around the world by increasing their health and economic well-being.  To qualify for Fair Trade certification, farmers must belong to an organized co-op. Farmers are able to adhere to the highest business and growing practices because they are paid a fair price for their coffee beans.  Often farmers are forced to use cost-cutting practices when they do NOT receive a fair price for their beans, thus impacting the quality of the coffee as well as causing a harmful effect on our environment. So, not only does Fair Trade promote a better quality of life for the farmers, but it means better quality coffee overall.  I believe all business owners have decisions to be made in regards to where they do their business in such things as harvesting, purchasing, sourcing as well as where they produce their ultimate end product.  But overall Certified Fair Trade benefits everyone.

Green Mountain has chosen to take a different approach than the majority of US corporations.  Though it may not be the best for their financial statements in regards to profits, they believe it is what is the most socially and environmentally responsible road for their business.  The company is focused on helping under privileged countries develop a vibrant work place and a sustained economic climate while reducing waste and being environmentally responsible.

Green Mountain believes that “what is good for the world is good for business”.  And who couldn’t agree with that statement?  I feel good about purchasing a product that is produced by a company with such high moral and social standards.

Now, let’s be honest, if it wasn’t a good product, then I wouldn’t be buying. But……….Green Mountain coffee is great and the quality is top-notch!  They have a huge selection of all different types of coffee from the light blends to the bold.  You can check out some of their offerings HERE on their website.  I love fall and I think the pumpkin spice coffee might be next on my list.

And I’m not saying Green Mountain is delicious without actually having tried it.  I recently received a Keurig coffee machine and a large selection of Green Mountain brand coffees.  And guess what?  Today we are giving away a Keurig machine and a variety of Green Mountain Coffee to one very lucky The Cottage Home blog reader.  You are going to love this machine and you are going to love the coffee that is coming with it!

So if you would like to support an environmentally and socially responsible company like Green Mountain Coffee, please enter our giveaway for a Keurig machine and a selection of Green Mountain “K-Cups” to use in their new coffee machine.

What do you take in your coffee?  Cream? Sugar? Both?
Do you go out of your way to buy environmentally friendly products?

  1. Who wants to be the first person to try and win this awesome machine? ME! I've been coveting one of these Keurig machines for well over a year now. My sister has one and loves it! I'm a cream and sugar gal for sure. Great giveaway - THANKS!

  2. Thanks for the awesome giveaway! I am definitely a fan of cream and sugar in my coffee!

  3. Awesome giveaway! I like both cream and sugar in my coffee! I definitely try to buy green products. I'm really into finding greener household cleaners right now for my home and for my work. I implemented recycling at the lab that I work with because unfortunately labs are extremely wasteful. We recycle everything that we can now and have urged other labs to do so too or just use our bins. I am all about trying trying to be as green as I can. It is the least I can do! Thanks of for the giveaway!

  4. What a great giveaway, I've been thinking of getting a Keurig for a while, all my friends rave about it. I am definitely a milk and sugar plus a touch of vanilla syrup in my coffee gal. And, I try to be more environmentally conscious now as a new mom, to leave this world a better place for my son. Thanks for the giveaway!

  16. OOoh you sure got my attention this morning. I LOVE coffee! I am a HUGE coffee snob too and anyone that knows me also would agree with that statement. I cannot drink those coffees you find in the grocery stores where you need a can opener to open them up. ewwwww

And that Keurig Machine is one I've been drooling over for at least three years now. I would LOVE to win that machine. I love the Green Mountain coffee for what they stand for too. Awesome company although I have to admit I've never tried their coffee before. I an very interested after checking out their flavors in trying that Sumatran Reserve. I love dark coffee as long as it isn't bitter as many of your darker ones can be. But, if I ordered it would probably have to be more than one order because for some reason my husband has started drinking coffee now too. We've been together for 11 yrs now and just this past year he's started drinking MY coffee. I have no idea why. LOL Darn it! NOW I have to share my awesome dark coffee with him. But, since he's the most awesome guy and makes my coffee each and every day for me and even grinds the beans daily as I must have. He then delivers the pot to my desk in my sewing room every morning for me I guess I'll share. LOL (I have theral carafe pot so it stays hot for hours) He does tend to drink flavored coffee though if we go to a coffee shop somewhere.

  17. I love coffee! I haven't tried Green Mountain yet but I've heard it's delicious.

  18. Those machines are amazing! I gaze longingly at them every time we pass one in the store... Someday, I keep telling myself. Someday.

Green Mountain Coffee rocks my socks off - mostly because their flavored coffees aren't terribly overpowering like some brands tend to me.

Oh and my coffee? I take it black. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I love my coffee with cream and sugar. But, I'm off to find that pumpkin spice Green Mountain coffee - that sounds DELISH! And a free coffee maker? Woo-hoo!!

Not sure what happened...

Having a machine at home so that I could make an evening cup without sacrificing the rest of the pot would be heavenly. I do tend to favor environmentally friendly products!

Thank-you so much for hosting the giveaway.

  44. Interestingly, I was just shopping for one of these machines and haven't bought it yet! AND, I love Green Mountain coffee! 51. I LOVE these makers and although we don't have one of them my husband gets to use one at work all of the time. I like my coffee BLACK. Every so often I'll take a little cream in it but usually only if it is too hot to drink right away and I want to cool it down a bit. As for going out of my way to buy environmentally friendly products, I do a little more of that all of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. My husband is the coffee drinker in our house, and he drinks his coffee...well...GREEN!! Okay, not literally green, but he drinks it "au natural" without anything added to it! I love that Keurig has K-cups available that are fun seasonal flavors, as well as environmentally "healthy" flavors, all the way to flavors for non-coffee drinkers like me. I love the hot chocolate (in white chocolate too!) and I also love that there's tea available too!

We are always working on becoming more green in our house. We try to conserve, buy green products, and encourage others to do so as well. I have a poster in my classroom this year (I teach high school English) that reminds students to "Go Green!" I was surprised that the kids noticed the poster right away at the beginning of school this August, and have often reminded each other to "go green!"

What an awesome giveaway -- and an awesome blog site! I love catching up in the cottage!

I buy local and organic as much as I can, but as a stay at home mom, it's tough on the pocketbook to do it all the time. In an effort to be green, I cloth diapered my older kid, and am currently cloth diapering my little one, it helps the wallet and is so much cuter! The money I save on diapers can easily be spent on coffee. Thanks for the chance to win, Lindsay!

  101. Personally, I don't drink coffee. But my husband does and he LOVES Green Mountain Coffee for his Keurig (for his regular coffee maker, he uses Community Coffee). And he drinks his with milk and sugar.

My poor husband has been relegated to only using his Keurig for special occasions because the pods are so expensive (he uses 4 pods a day!), so I would love to win him a supply of his favorite pods!

I try to buy green, but cost prohibits it a lot of the time.
